A breakdown on current playing squads
by The Boy Holty
The club has issued the following statement. It seems a bit odd to me that they feel the need to explain themselves in this fashion, but here's the statement in full:
As we have now signed over 20 new players to join the club, we thought it is now prudent to explain the rationale behind some of the summer signings to help the fans appreciate the hard work and effort that has been put in place to safeguard the future of this great football club.
Historically, it has always been an uphill battle to maintain continuity and depth of squad. In some instances we did not even have a full bench last season.
One of the main shackles for any Club is the wage structure, especially with the new cost management constraints being implemented by the FA and Football League.
Therefore, not only do we have to think about the current squad, but try to implement changes and structures to make sure we can compete at a good level all season and not be worried about injuries or lack of depth on the bench.
With this in mind it was planned to sign a mixture of players both from an age point of view as well as an experience. Many of you wondered who “Big” Jessie Reindorf is and such questions as ‘who is Temitope Obadeyi (or as we call him - Toppie), why did we sign Aidan Chippendale etc.
The reason is simple; we have also created a development squad to work and train with the first team. This in turn pushes the players and allows the younger professionals to grow in talent and gain first team football when the Gaffer believes the time is right.
Why pay clubs for players when our management team can develop raw talent better than the majority of coaching staff in the UK. We will not have the situation ever again when we have no choices.
We have also taken the Youth back in house and as such the continuity will continue all the way down to the U8s!!!
The current squads are:
First Team Squad: Trevor Carson, Rob Lainton, Phil Picken, Shaun Beeley, Gareth Roberts, Richard Hinds, Adam Lockwood, Nathan Cameron, Tom Soares, Danny Mayor, Craig Jones, Chris Sedgwick, Andy Procter, Euan Holden, Jordan Sinnott, Marcos Navas, Shaun Harrad, Anton Forrestor and Ashley Grimes.
