Notts County 4 Bury 1 - Oh Ashley!
by The Boy Holty
Friday night was not a good night for Bury, and certainly not good for Ashley Eastham who had a complete nightmare. In the first half, Bury equipped themselves well and looked the better team, more settled and knocking the ball around nicely. Steven Schumacher's wonder strike on 24 minutes gave us a well deserved half time lead and tv images of Notts County's interim manager Chris Kiwomya reminded me of Chris Casper. He looked like a man who had not the first clue of how to turn it around.
However, he obviously had not accounted for bury's self destruct button. Sure, the enforced half time withdrawal of Stephane Zubar left a gaping hole in midfield but after their full back cleverly beat Ajose in the box and scored with a deflected shot, it turned into the Ashley Eastham horror show.
Eastham, who was on loan at Notts earlier this season, allowed the ball to bounce in the area, allowing Notts to go 2-1 up, then he again misjudged a bouncing ball to let them in for a third and finally he conceeded the penalty that made it 4-1.
It was four goals in about 16 minutes that sent us from leading one nil and looking good for the win, to being on the receiving end of our biggest hammering of the season.
On top of all that, a second transfer embargo was placed on the club this week.
At least we will get to sample the cheap Rochdale pubs once again next season.
