Oldham 1 Bury 2
by The Boy Holty
Bury acheived their first away win of the season courtesy of a comedy own goal, a well taken penalty and some dogged defending.
The first half was all Bury with the home side barely managing a shot on goal, in fact I can remember just one Oldham effort whilst Bury had lots of possession and created some good opportunities. The only goal of the first half cam when a cross was comically headed into the bottom corner of the net by an Oldham defender. Bury led 1-0 and were doing well, but Oldham had more to offer.
In the second half, they had pulled themselves together a bit and the tables were turned. They pressured us into constantly losing possession and whilst not forcing many saves from Carson, did force plenty of free kicks and corners. They had on their side, the most incompetent referee I have ever seen although to be fair, he made poor choices in both sides favour but he gave free kicks every two minutes.
With about ten minutes left, Oldham began panicking a bit and started making mistakes, allowing Bury to keep the ball better and force some good attacks, one of which saw David Worrall upended in the box. The referee pointed to the spot and Steven Schumacher blasted it home to leave the home side with a mountain to climb.
They did get a goal back with just a few minutes left when a cross was headed home but Bury held on for a valuable three points.
In other news, Oldham is still a complete shit-hole and their ground is still missing a stand.
