Richie Barker has been strengthening the squad ready for our second season in league one by signing Adam Lockwood, Marcus Marchall, Lateef Eflord-Alliyu and Trevor Carson.
20 year old Elford-Alliyu, or ‘Pan joined us on loan from West Brom in February of last season and scored a couple of goals. Nigerian by birth, he played for Englands under 17 team, scoring once. Despite being a bit part player for Bury in his initial loan spell, Barker has obviously seen enough potential to make the signing a permanent one. We look forward to seeing his pace unlock a few league one defences this season.
Trevor Carson is another one making a return to Gigg as he was also on loan here last season from Sunderland covering for Cameron Belford as he suffered a loss of form and a falling out with Barker. Carson did well between the sticks and he signs a 2 year deal, which has got to be good news. Its always good to see a defence who has confidence in its keeper, which wasnt the case in the early part of last season.
Adam Lockwood is a 30 year old Yorkshireman and a central defender who has spent the last six seasons at Doncaster Rovers in the Championship and was released following their relegation to league one. He did well at Donny and was a regular in the side. He can play at central defence or right back. Looks a good signing, possibly a bit ginger though.
Marcus Marshall was released by Rotherham after a loan spell at Macclesfield, so he doesnt exactly come with a great pedigree. He is only 22 though, so Richie must have spotted something about the lad. He has signed a one year deal.
In other news, Mike Grella has signed for Scunthorpe as Alan Knill continues to try and build a team of former Bury players.
