  • Bury v Rochdale preview

So here we go again. Its that utterly depressing time of year when we remember that the biggest match of our season is against bloody rochdale. On the positive side, and from a personal point of view, my most hated local team is still b****n and I don't actually hate rochdale at all so when we lose (which we invariably do at home) it doesn't hurt as much as losing to one of our real rivals but even that comment sounds a bit silly now as its about fifteen years since we played them in the league and we have to play sodding rochdale all the time. Its got to the point where the younger Bury fans see rochdale as our biggest rivals, which for us old-timers is a bit embarrassing.

Anyway, the buggers are here this weekend and with the run we've been on - undefeated in nine league games and winning six out of the last seven, you'd call that a guaranteed away win. Our opponents on Saturday, for their part, have had a mixed set of results of late losing narrowly at Sheffield United last weekend, but by all accounts playing well and the previous week they were beaten at home by Bradford. Keith Hill keeps making the same comments about his side, that they're making too many mistakes and also that he's excited about the game against us. They're bound to be well up for it this weekend so my confidence of a home win is low.

The Wigan game was an interesting one and a fabulous match and the fact that we didn't win could work in our favour when rochdale visit, although we could miss Chris Hussey after his sending off. He's been one of the most impressive and consistent performers for us this season so his absence will be a big loss. Danny Mayor is also likely to be out with a virus, so we're probably missing our best two players.

I'll be there with knobs on anyway, and looking forward to another decent crowd. Oldham brought 2000 and Wigan probably more like 1500 which is about what I'd expect on Saturday. Let's hope we can get a few more home fans in and maybe get our first 6000 crowd of the season.

Up the Shakers, oh and rochdale fans, please remember to wipe your feet in Heywood on the way in...
