Some interesting goings on
by The Boy Holty
As Bury were squeezing past Accrington and into the second round of the JPT, the transfer deadline passed without incident at Gigg Lane.
The only thing on the cards was Jack Ruddy, our youth team goalkeeper who was apparently attracting the interest of Aston Villa and Manchester City. I read somewhere that Bury FC put a value of £300,000 on him and he would probably have left had Christian Walton not returned to his parent club Brighton and Hove Albion due to injury. Walton had divided opinion with his obvious ability, but he's let a lot of goals in though not many were his fault. Jack Ruddy is now our second choice keeper after Rob Lainton so there's a decent chance he might get some first team action this season which will either wipe out or enhance his potential value. Its a while since we sold a player for any notable amount, so that will be one to watch.
Surely its better for the club and the player to be second choice at Bury than eight or ninth choice at Villa or City.
Meanwhile Hallam Hope scored his first goal in over a season at Stanley (who now play at the Wham Stadium I believe) and Andrew Tutte also got his name on the scoresheet as Bury survived a late fightback and a missed penalty to put Bury in the draw for the next round which takes place on Saturday.
I bet 18p that Bury would score last night so having turned my 18p into 22p, I'm at a bit of a loss today as to how to spend my 4p winnings. Exciting times.
