Nev Neville has Died
by The Boy Holty
Nev Neville, one of Bury Football Club's greatest heroes, has died of a heart attack while on Holiday in Australia.
When Bury FC were in deep deep trouble in 2002, Nev Neville was the man who suggested selling the seats for ten pounds each. We raised £150,000 which went a long way to saving the football club, and isn't bad especially considering we only have 12,000 seats.
Two years ago he was instrumental in bringing Stewart Day to Gigg Lane and quite simply is one of the reasons we have a football club at all.
He's always been there in times of crisis, showing his love for Bury FC. He used to have his own standing area at Gigg which we called 'The Nev Neville Enclosure' and has for years been a constant in the ever changing world of football.
In 1999 he was in Barcelona to see his two sons Gary and Philip win the European Champions League Final for Manchester United, but still names Dean Keily's penalty save at Watford in 1997 as his greatest moment in football.
In short, Nev Neville is on of Bury FC's all-time heroes. We offer our deepest condolences and sympathy to his family. Rest in peace Nev.
