Carlisle United 0 Bury 3
by The Boy Holty
Relegation fodder Carlisle were swept aside by promotion certainties Bury on Saturday, at least that was how it seemed on the evidence of this game. Whilst Carlisle looked utterly toothless and lacking in goal threat, Bury were in no danger whatsoever from start to finish. It was like a pre-season game or a cup match between teams two or three leagues apart. It really was men against boys.
The only surprise was that it was 0-0 at half time (and a personal disappointment as I had a few quid on Bury to win and be ahead by half time), as Craig Jones missed two sitters and stuck a shot high and wide from the edge of the area. Tom Soares also had a good chance but chose to pass rather than shoot when the shot looked the easier option.
Having gone downstairs for some food late during the half time break, I missed the start of the second half and was just leaving the canteen when I heard a roar which signified a Danny Rose goal, so I've no idea what happened but after that it was like a training excersize for Bury as we dominated the game. To be fair Carlisle had one or two chances but didn't muster a shot on target during the whole game and look destined for the Conference.
A really good move put Jones in to score a lovely second for Bury and Ryan Lowe came on as a sub to curl another great shot into the far corner for our third goal.
It could have been five or six based on the chances we missed and the complete dominance we showed. It was a very good performance and I haven't heard Flitcroft's comments yet but I doubt he had a bad word to say about them. They were excellent.
Its Stevenage on Tuesday and then league leaders Burton next Saturday. These are exciting times for Bury. Up the Shakers.
