Tonight Bury head for the Macaroni Stadium in Horwich in a league cup first round tie which is the most eagerly anticipated first round match we've played since, well 2002, when we last played (and beat) b****n on their own patch. At the time they were in the premier league and we were in the third division, this time round they're a little closer to were they belong and we're in league two (so no change there).
We took 2500 for that match twelve years ago, and I can see no reason why we won't take at least that number again tonight.
The 1-0 win courtesy of a Brend Mendy own goal/Colin Woodthorpe wonder strike (from a yard), was only our second visit to the then Reebok Stadium, our first visit was in the first division (now the Championship) when we were on the end of a miserable 4-0 hammering. Of course you'll all remember the return fixture which saw Neil Warnock's Shakers grab a 2-1 win which turned out to be not quite enough to ultimately save us from relegation, or indeed to halt b****n's play off challenge, although they failed to win promotion.
As for tonight, well when the draw was made, my first reaction was to think that its time we gave those wankers the thrashing they deserve. We've waited twelve years to play them and we owe them one. There's no reason why we can't go there full of confidence as they are probably looking at another mid table finish in the Championship and we have hopes of promotion. Both teams have played once this season, Bury losing at home to Cheltenham and b****n losing 3-0 at Watford, so both teams, managers and sets of supporters will be looking for a reaction to those results.
Of course, they are two divisions higher than us and so we can't expect anything, but we will go there large in number and loud of voice and there's every chance we could turn them over.

ps. Don't forget to wipe your feet on your way out.
